CHAPTER 13

Thirteen—Karen

At first, I was startled by the presence of someone next to me in bed. I rubbed my eyes against the daylight filtering through the small window. It was Adele, only Adele—we’d come to this motel after our disgust at the first one. We’d gotten in bed, and then… and then…

No, it couldn’t be. That had to have been a dream.

A good dream, judging by the wetness between my legs. Disgusting. I felt like a pervert for fantasizing about my friend like that. My subconscious should’ve realized that nothing like that would ever happen.

Except as I stood up, I noticed how I was no longer wearing any clothes.

I hadn’t gotten into bed naked… so when had they come off?

My throat suddenly tight, I stared at Adele’s sleeping form. She was out cold, oddly enough—usually she was the early bird. And her face was so peaceful. I resisted the urge to peek under the sheets. It sure didn’t look like she had a shirt on, but that could’ve meant anything. And I wasn’t going to try to see her bottom half. Even if she’d happened to sleep naked, it still could’ve been a dream.

And that was a lot more likely than the alternative. Sure, some straight girls experimented from time to time, but not Adele. Not with me.

No, we’d been close to sleep and my infatuation with her had made its way into my dream state. It was sad, really. I needed to clear my head. Stop spending time with her. It’d be best to end this weekend trip early, even if that’d disappoint our fans.

I jumped in the shower and then took Buddy out. When we got back from our walk, Adele was awake, though bleary-eyed. I gave her a tight smile and sipped the coffee I’d picked up. “Sorry, I didn’t know you’d be awake. I would’ve gotten you one, too.”

“That’s okay.” She sat up and stretched. Now she had a shirt on, if she hadn’t before. “I slept so well. It was amazing.”

Fuck, her body looked incredible in those different positions. I tried not to look as her limbs moved and lengthened, then relaxed. Based on what I’d seen in my dream, I could picture every inch of her breasts and stomach. And in the mental image I had, the freckles on her face continued down onto her chest.

“Yeah?” I asked as casually as I could. “Why’s that?”

Coming out from the sheets, she scooched to the edge of the bed. I stood and sipped my coffee, trying to ignore the fact that she was giving me this longing look, like she wanted me to bend down and kiss her or something. Doesn’t mean anything happened. Still probably just a dream.

“I was worn out,” she said, a shy smile playing on her lips.

Oh, fuck. “So last night, um… that actually happened?”

She blinked a few times, the smile disappearing for an instant. “What part of last night?”

“The, ah…” I cleared my throat. “The end of it?”

The smile returned, much bigger than before.
